Almost all airlines in the United States allow passengers to travel with pets. Some airlines permit traveling pets via cargo flights, or in baggage compartments while others only allow them in cabins with pet carriers.

Frontier Airlines is among the major airlines in the U.S. that allow passengers to travel with their pets. However, there are some guidelines, and policies that need to be strictly followed.

Frontier Airlines doesn’t allow pets in the cargo compartment, or on any cargo flights. Pets are only allowed to travel with passengers in the aircraft cabin.

Frontier passengers can travel with these domesticated pets on all flights within the United States. Talking about international destinations, only domesticated dogs, and cats can be carried.

Important Note: No pets are accepted on codeshare flights!

  • Rodents including Mice, Rats, and Squirrels
  • Lions, Tigers, or Bears
  • Beavers
  • Ferrets
  • Reptiles including Snakes
  • Amphibians
  • Spiders
  • Insects
If you are wondering whether Frontier allows you to travel with pets in a cabin, it does however, the pet must stay in the pet carrier for the entire duration of the flight. You can’t carry your pet, or buy a separate seat while flying on any Frontier flights.

Frontier Airlines Pet Carrier Requirements

The Frontier Pet Policy requires passengers to bring a pet carrier or container that needs to be stowed underneath the front seat at all times. The pet container must be large enough for the pets to stand, move around, and lie down in a natural position.

The maximum allowed dimension for the pet carrier is 18” x 14” x 8” (L x W x H). Frontier recommends bringing a soft-sided pet carrier that meets all government requirements for safe transportation.

Seating Requirements

Passengers traveling on Frontier flights with their pets can sit anywhere except the first row and emergency exit rows.

The pet carrier must be placed under the seat in front of the passenger traveling with the animal. The pet must remain in the container during the entire flight.

Pet’s Health Requirements

If you are traveling within the United States on Frontier flights, you don’t require a pet’s health certificate. However, some specific states may ask you to provide a valid health certificate upon arrival.

You can contact your veterinarian, or see the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services for confirmation of the health certificate requirement.

Pets traveling on Frontier flights must be at least 8 weeks old, and fully weaned. The behavior of the pet must be harmless, inoffensive, and odorless. Passengers need to ensure their pets are free of illness, violence, and physical distress.

Frontier insists it is the responsibility of the pet owner to calm the situation if their pet is disruptive, and it should be done without taking the pet out of the pet carrier.

Frontier Airlines requires that pets remain in their kennel or carrier at all times while onboard. Additionally, passengers are not allowed to provide food or water to their pets during the flight since this may cause discomfort due to the motion of the aircraft and the stress of travel.

A valid health certificate for pets is mandatory for international travel. The health certificate must include the following details.

Must be dated based on Country of entry:

  • Within 30 days of entry into Puerto Rico
  • Within 10 days of entry into the U.S.
  • Within 15 days of entry into the Dominican Republic
  • Within 14 days of entry into Costa Rica
  • Within 5 days of entry into Mexico

The health certificate must include the name and address of the owner, animal species, country of origin/destination, and vaccination details.

Frontier Airlines Trained Service Animal Policy

Frontier accepts only dogs as service animals who are trained to perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability. It also includes psychiatric service animals.

The key requirements for the trained service dog are the submission of the DOT’s Service Animal Air Transportation Form including the attestation to the dog’s health, behavior, and training.

Frontier Guidelines for traveling with a trained service animal.

  • Only dogs are accepted in the cabin as trained service animals.
  • Fully trained psychiatric service dogs are accepted as trained service animals.
  • The number of service animals traveling with a single passenger with a disability is limited to 2.
  • Comfort animals, Companionship Animals, or other non-task-trained animals are not accepted as service animals.
  • A trained service animal must be trained to behave properly in a public setting and be under the control of the handler by use of a harness, leash, or tethered at all times in the airport and on the aircraft.

Requirements at the airport

Frontier will verify the customer with a disability, and determine whether the animal is a trained service animal to be accepted on the flight.

If a passenger’s status as an individual with a disability is not apparent (for example, if the disability is not clearly visible), Frontier representatives may ask fact-finding questions to determine whether an animal is a trained service animal, or eligible to be accepted as a pet.

Requirements Onboard the aircraft

As per the pet policy, the trained service animal must be positioned in such a way that it doesn’t create disturbance during an emergency. Passengers are not allowed to sit in an emergency exit row with a trained service animal.

The trained service animal can be placed on the aircraft floor, or on the passenger’s lap (provided the animal is no larger than a child under the age of two). However, the animal must not occupy an empty aircraft seat, or encroach on another’s seat.

If passengers need to carry their trained service animal in a pet carrier, they need to bring a pet carrier and stow it underneath the seat in front at all times.

International Travel Policy for Trained Service Animal

As per Frontier Pet Policy, passengers can travel with their trained service animal to all international destinations. But, they need to be aware of the country-specific regulations.

Frontier insists it is the responsibility of the passenger traveling with a trained service animal on an international journey for researching and complying with country-specific regulations, requirements, laws, and procedures.
